Year 5 children at Queensway Academy recently had an exciting and competitive experience at the Thetford Cluster Tag Rugby Event. This event was designed to help young students develop their rugby skills and foster a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. The children participated in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing their abilities, including passing drills and tactical development exercises.

The day began with a series of skill-building activities. The passing drills helped the children improve their accuracy and coordination. These drills involved practicing different types of passes. The children were encouraged to communicate effectively with their teammates, ensuring that each pass was precise and well-timed.

In addition to passing drills, the children engaged in tactical development games, including stuck in the mud. These activities were designed to teach them the strategic aspects of tag rugby, such as positioning, movement, and decision-making. Sports Leaders from Thetford Academy helped the children to understand the different dynamics and working together as a team.

After the morning session and a picnic in the March sun, the children participated in a round robin competition against five other schools from Thetford. They played multiple matches, providing opportunities for the children to apply the skills they had learned. The competition was fierce, but the atmosphere was friendly and supportive. The children displayed remarkable teamwork and sportsmanship, cheering for each other and celebrating their successes.

Throughout the event, the children demonstrated impressive growth in their rugby skills and a strong sense of camaraderie. The event was not only a fun and engaging experience but also a valuable opportunity for the children to develop their abilities and build lasting friendships.
