We are proud to announce the findings of the recent Ofsted inspection, under the new Ofsted framework. This published report has identified the strong foundations the school has built, not only to scaffold learning for the youngest pupils, but also to create an ideal environment to explore and try new things in this key stage of development for pupils.

On the new Ofsted “report card” system, the school has been rated on 7 areas of inspection. They were rated as delivering a “Strong standard” for “Personal development and wellbeing”, identifying it as a key strength of the academy. Pupils are given the chance to explore a wide range of opportunities and experiences at our school, growing their skills outside of the classroom, and gently encouraging them to take steps to broaden their horizons. Pupils become rounded individuals and take every chance to discover new and exciting things.

Inspectors praised this dedication to development and wellbeing:

“Leaders place a high priority on the personal development and wellbeing programme. It is a strength of the school’s offer…

…Pupils benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities. Nothing is left to chance. Leaders thoughtfully consider what to offer and how this will benefit the pupils. Currently, pupils access sports, arts and music clubs, as well as trips beyond the school. Leaders monitor participation and encourage pupils who have not accessed a club to join in.”

In the report the 6 other areas of inspection met the “Expected standard”, demonstrating the positive trajectory that the academy has taken over the past few years. Continuing to refine best practice at Queensway has improved the standards of learning throughout the academy. Taking steps to develop every aspect of the teaching and learning journey has shown positive impacts across every area.

Ofsted commended the positive environment and behaviour of pupils at the academy, helping staff to teach effectively:

“Leaders set clear and high expectations for behaviour. They promote a calm and caring learning environment. Pupils understand what is expected of them. They follow routines well. Even the youngest children settle quickly and begin learning with minimal disruption.”

“Since the previous inspection, leaders have placed a key focus on ensuring that the curriculum is ambitious and well sequenced across all subjects. Essential knowledge has now been carefully identified for each unit of work. This reflects leaders’ clear understanding of what is working well and what needs further improvement so that pupils achieve well across subjects”

Abi Wright, Principal at Queensway Infant Academy said:

"We are delighted that Ofsted has recognised the strength of our inclusive and nurturing school community. This report reflects the dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the enthusiasm of our pupils, who demonstrate kindness, confidence and a love of learning every day. We are incredibly proud of what we achieve together at Queensway Infant School."

Implementing an ambitious curriculum has raised aspirations in our academy, providing pupils with inspiration to learn new things. By providing them the tools of reading, writing and maths, pupils can dive deeper in their understanding and grow their knowledge based on their interests.

Ofsted identified the clear steps taken to support pupils from the very moment they arrive at Queensway:

“Leaders focus on developing children’s core skills in reading, writing, mathematics and language. This prepares children well for Year 1.

Children settle quickly because of warm relationships with staff. Staff know children well and create a calm and safe environment.

When children have gaps in their knowledge, staff provide targeted support. This usually helps them to catch up.”

This knowledge of every child is also the product of placing a high focus on inclusion. Understanding pupil need and delivering the interventions and support they need to succeed has been key in creating a learning environment where our pupils can thrive, achieving their very best.

Inspectors noted how this focus on inclusion is working successfully to support pupil progress throughout the academy:

“Staff carefully identify pupils’ barriers to learning. In some cases, this work starts before the child has even joined the school due to purposeful transition arrangements.

More personalised support is provided for pupils who have specific barriers to their learning. Adaptations are discussed with pupils’ families and, when needed, external professionals. This helps to ensure that pupils receive the right support at the right time.”

We are extremely proud of the work gone into delivering a learning environment where every child can access the curriculum and achieve their best. Providing the tools to each pupil that they need to succeed.
